Eyjakonur will play in the finals of the Iceland women’s handball tournament after winning a double-overtime match against Hauk tonight. This is the second time in the last three games that ÍBV wins after two overtimes. ÍBV won the match 3:2 and will meet Val in the finals.
Sandra Erlingsdóttir scored 10 goals and Agnes Lilja six for ÍBV. Embla Steindórsdóttir and Rakel Oddný Guðmundsdóttir were the top scorers for the Hawks with eight and six goals. Final score 36:31 after regular time was 27:27.
The first half was as entertaining as the duel has been so far. Some amazing moves and then Embla Steindórsdóttir was absolutely amazing in the Hawks team where she scored three goals and created six chances for her teammates. Then Rakel Oddný showed why she has been called up to the last national team groups as she was good in the corner defensively and offensively.
At ÍBV, Lilja Kristín Svansdóttir and Agnes Lilja Styrmisdóttir had a show in the first half, where Lilja scored twice and Agnes three goals. They were making a noise when Haukakonur were taking Sandra out of traffic, but then a large area opened up for them.
The goalkeeping was even in the first half, but Amalie Frøland saved eight shots and Sara Sif Helgadóttir seven.
In the second half, the Hawks got the upper hand and were ahead for a long period of time, but the game was still within reach for the Eyjakonur. In the final part, everything was equal, but Eyjakonur had a chance at 59:57 to win the game. Sara Sif Helgadóttir, who was amazing in the second half, saved them from Birna María Unnarsdóttir, who was able to secure the victory for Eyjakonum.
Therefore, the game had to be extended like game 3 here in Eyjum. The atmosphere in the house was great and people really don’t remember a better atmosphere in the house for a long time.
The Hawks scored the first two goals in extra time, while ÍBV scored the next three before the Hawks equalized again with Embla’s eighth goal. Both teams had a chance to win the game before the final whistle, but to no avail. After 70 minutes, the score was equal at 30:30 and everything was galloping.
Islanders scored the first two goals in the second overtime, but Amalie returned to the goal and did really well, saving a shot and then saving a penalty. When she saved the penalty, she apparently injured the calf of her right leg and was unable to take part in the game.
Rakel Oddný showed that she can not only score, but she set up the Hawks’ first goal in the second overtime with a great pass to Sára Odden before Britney Cots brought the difference to two goals again. The islanders then scored the rest of the goals and won the game by five goals.
