Although the incident was initially reported as a confrontation against alleged criminals involved in illegal activities, the first investigations suggest that there was excessive use of force in an attack against a van in which civilians were on board.
According to RPP, no firearms or illicit substances were found in the vehicle attacked by the uniformed officers. In addition, witnesses indicate that the occupants of the truck were unarmed at the time of the attack.
The injured, identified as Eber Soto Quispe and Jonathan Águila Gutiérrez, are hospitalized in the Pampas hospital, while the Huancayo Anti-Drug Prosecutor’s Office and the Pampas Provincial Criminal Prosecutor’s Office carry out the proceedings to determine how the events occurred.
Meanwhile, three of the five victims were identified as Cristian Vilcatoma Águila, William Núñez Soto and Jaime Bendezú Paraguay.

In a statement on her Facebook account, the National Police of Peru (PNP) reported that, after the first procedures and verifications at the scene, evidence was found that is the subject of investigation.
“The case has been taken over by the Depincri PNP Huanta – Ayacucho, which continues with the proceedings to clarify the facts, in accordance with the law. Likewise, intervening military personnel are subject to the corresponding actions within the investigation process, as well as the weapons seized in the area,” noted the institution.
