A delegation of Honduran deputies traveled to Colombia a few hours before the celebration second round of the presidential elections, in which the next president will be defined between the left-wing candidate of the Historical Pact, Iván Cepeda, and the right-wing candidate, Abelardo de la Espriella.
The group is made up of deputies Eder Mejía, Roy Cruz, José Jaar, Sandra Colleman, Alejandra Vallecillo, María José Sosa, Iliana Velásquez, Fany Santos, Daisy Andonie, Cinthya Hawit and Sebastián Romero, as well as legislative advisor Suarmy Torres.
Also included in the delegation are the magistrate of the Electoral Court of Justice (ECJ), Mario Flores Urrutiaand the former advisor of the National Electoral Council (CNE), Kelvin Aguirre, according to images published on the Legislative social networks.
According to information from the National Congress, the delegation made an official visit to the Congress of the Republic of Colombia, in Bogotá, with the purpose of strengthening ties of interparliamentary cooperation and exchanging good institutional practices.
According to the Honduran Legislature, The high-level meeting seeks to generate a strategic approach that will allow us to learn more about the administrative functioning processes of the Colombian Congress, its electronic voting systems and other topics on the legislative agenda of interest to both nations.
Likewise, it was detailed that the deputies Eder Mejía, Roy Cruz, José Jaar, Alejandra Vallecillo, María José Sosa, Iliana Velásquez, Fany Santos, Daisy Andonie, Cinthya Hawit and Sebastián Romero participated in work tables and technical tours organized by the Colombian legislative authorities.
However, the visit has attracted attention because it coincides with the eve of the second presidential round in Colombia, an election that has raised expectations in the region due to the dispute between the candidacies of Iván Cepeda and Abelardo de la Espriella.
So far, the National Congress of Honduras has not reported whether the delegation will participate as an observer in Sunday’s second round of elections in Colombia or if its agenda will be limited to the legislative and institutional activities previously announced.
