18 months after the start of the president’s administration Claudia Sheinbaum Pardohe Security Cabinet reported a 41% decrease in the incidence of intentional homicide in the country.
According to Marcela Figueroa Francohead of the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System, the daily average of this crime It fell 41% between September 2024 and March 2026.
During the presentation of the report as of March 31, the official explained that this reduction is equivalent to 35 homicides less per day, going from 86.9 to 51.4 daily cases on average.

He also highlighted that March 2026 became the month with the lowest incidence of homicides in the last 11 years, while the first quarter of the year registered the lowest level for that period since 2015.
The report also reveals that seven entities accounted for just over half of the homicides in March: Guanajuato (9.2%), Chihuahua (8.3%), Baja California (8%), Morelos (6.4%), Warrior (6.3%), State of Mexico (6%) and Oaxaca (5.9%).
In the breakdown by state, significant reductions stand out. Guanajuato reported a 63% drop in average daily homicides since its peak in 2025; Nuevo León registered a decrease of 74%, while Quintana Roo and Zacatecas reported drops of 74% and 89%, respectively.

Likewise, the high impact crimes showed a downward trend. Between 2018 and the first quarter of 2026, the daily average decreased 52%, going from 969.4 to 461.3 cases. In that same period, the theft of a vehicle with violence fell 56.4%.
In the comparison between the first quarter of 2025 and 2026, decreases were recorded in most high-impact crimes, such as kidnapping (36%), extortion (17.7%) and robbery with violence (18.2%).
The only crime that showed a slight increase was violent home robbery, with an increase of 2.2%.

At the conclusion of the Security Cabinet report, the president Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo He assured that the reduction in intentional homicides has deepened during his administration. He indicated that, with preliminary figures, from January 2024 to March 2026 the daily average of this crime has decreased 45%, going from 91.7 to 50.8 daily cases.
“We continue working and we have to work more, but the strategy is giving results,” he said.
The president stressed that this downward trend began during the government of Andrés Manuel López Obradorwhen homicides went from 100.5 in December 2018 to 91.7 in 2024, which represented a 9% reduction.

In that sense, he highlighted that his administration has managed to accelerate this decrease, consolidating – he said – a change in the security strategy.

He also spoke about the creation of a command school within the National Security Academy, promoted together with the head of Security, Omar García Harfuch.
This project, he said, seeks to train the best profiles to head the state and municipal security secretariats, with emphasis on honesty, professionalism, human rights and inter-institutional coordination, particularly with the National Guard, Defense and Navy.
