Police in Orange Walk Town are searching for the gunman who ambushed and killed 40-year-old Jose Sosa Sr., known as “Bones”, on Sunday.
“Information is that Sosa was in a hammock at a building in Orange Walk when a male person pulled up towards him and fired several shots, causing his fatal injuries,” Assistant Commissioner of Police Hilberto Romero, Head of the National Crimes Investigation Branch, confirmed during this morning’s police press briefing.
Sosa was taken for medical treatment but later succumbed to his injuries. Romero that investigators are pursuing several leads.
“He was shot multiple times, and we believe it is drug-related,” Romero added.
Police also confirmed that Sosa was known to police and said investigators have information on the direction in which the suspect fled following the shooting. “We are looking for several persons at this time,” Romero said.
The shooter fled the scene on a motorcycle.
