The Chief Medical Officer of Hungary has extended the second-level heat alert across the entire country until midnight on Friday, June 26. Beginning at 12:00 a.m. Saturday, the heat alert will be raised to the third (highest) level and will remain in effect until midnight on Tuesday, June 30.
According to a statement issued by the disaster management authority and the National Center for Public Health and Pharmacy, persistently extreme heat is expected to continue over the coming days, placing significant physical and mental strain on the body. The groups most at risk are young children, older adults, pregnant women, and people with cardiovascular diseases.
The authorities are once again urging everyone to take extra care of themselves and others during the heatwave.
During periods of extreme heat, regular fluid intake is especially important. Hydration should be preventive rather than based solely on feeling thirsty. Alcoholic drinks, caffeinated beverages, and drinks with high sugar content can increase the risk of dehydration and are therefore best avoided.

The authorities also recommend preparing carefully for outdoor activities such as festivals, sporting events, or trips to the beach.
During the hottest part of the day, people should avoid direct sunlight and seek shade or air-conditioned spaces.
It is advisable to wear light-colored, breathable clothing, UV-protective sunglasses, and use high-SPF sunscreen and lip balm.

When relaxing near water, people should never jump into the water while overheated. Instead, they should cool down gradually.
The statement also warns that
localized thunderstorms may develop in the extreme heat.
Lake Balaton has a total of 54 storm warning lights, ensuring that at least three are visible from any given point. There are 4 warning lights at Lake Velence, 5 at Lake Tisza, and 11 at Lake Fertő.

The authorities also stress that children and pets should never be left unattended in a parked car, even for a single minute. Anyone who encounters such a situation should immediately call the emergency number 112.
As of Thursday, fire bans will be in effect in the whole country, covering forests and areas within a 200-meter radius.
