The Minister of Health, Mohamed Al-Ghouj, along with the WHO Regional Director for the Eastern Mediterranean, Hanan Al-Balkhi, and the WHO Country Director in Libya, Ahmed Zweiten, chaired a technical meeting that brought together the directors of the Ministry’s technical departments and their counterparts from the WHO technical team.
The meeting was dedicated to reviewing the 100-day Initiative launched by the Ministry of Health as an urgent intervention programme with the aim of improving health performance in an immediate and tangible manner. The meeting addressed the main axes of the initiative, which include:
– Enhancing primary health care
– Supporting clinics and hospitals
– Improving operational efficiency
– Developing the referral and response system
– Accelerating the digital transformation process
The Health Ministry said the meeting revealed ‘‘remarkable preliminary results achieved by the 100-Day Plan’’, as:
– Clinic services increased by 60%
– Pressure on emergency departments decreased by 30%
– The number of surgeries jumped by 121%
– Shelter capacity increased by 86.9%
– Operational capacity and the referral system improved by 40% each
– The launch of the initial application of the digitization system
The Health Ministry reported that the WHO Regional Director commended these achievements and stressed the importance of strengthening cooperation on a number of priority files at the national and international levels.
Signing of a Strategic Cooperation Framework
The meeting culminated in the signing of the Strategic Cooperation Framework between the Ministry of Health and the WHO Country Office. This constitutes a roadmap for technical partnership for the period 2026-2027. It also consolidates the joint commitment to the development of the national health system in line with strategic priorities in support of Libya’s aspirations towards achieving universal health coverage.
