US President Donald Trump criticized the European Union’s offer to Canada to become its first “partner member,” describing it as ridiculous and threatening to impose “very large” tariffs.
This came in a statement to reporters upon getting off the plane in North Carolina, on Wednesday evening. Trump threatened to impose “very large” tariffs on Europe or stop trade with it in many areas.
He continued, saying: “If they go ahead, and if I see that there is any hostile behavior in the matter, I will impose very strict customs duties or stop trade with Europe in many areas.”
The US President described the European Union’s offer to Canada as “ridiculous.”
