Haxhiu: We don’t need a coalition with the PDK, cooperation except for opposing the decision of The Hague

The Speaker of the Assembly of Kosovo, Albulena Haxhiu, has stated in Debate Plus that she does not see the need for a coalition with the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK), stressing that cooperation between the parties can be done on certain issues, but not within the framework of a governing partnership.
Haxhiu said that, in order to have a common position after the decision of September 16, it is not necessary to create a political coalition.
“In order to have a unifying stance with September 16, we don’t need a joint coalition. We need joint actions, unification for each action we have ahead, contribution from each side,” said Haxhiu.
She emphasized that she does not see PDK as a partner for a joint government, clarifying that this is her personal position.
“But I don’t see that we need a coalition with the PDK, not in this period. This is related to the decision, but to our position with the PDK. We can cooperate in relation to the opposition to the decision of September 16, which is unfair. But I do not see them as a partner in governance. This is my personal position,” said the Speaker of the Assembly.
Haxhiu also spoke about the issue of the election of the president, reiterating the position that the president should not be part of a political party.
“So, I am returning to my position: the president should be a president who should not be in a political party. Even in this situation we are in, it would be the best”, she declared.
According to Haxhiu, during the discussions, several alternatives were considered for candidates, including people who have contributed to society and the institutions of the Republic of Kosovo.
“We had several alternatives, for names that have contributed in different ways to our society, to the institutions of the Republic of Kosovo. The insistence that we have a candidate from among them is wrong”, said Haxhiu.
She also mentioned the then speaker of the Assembly, Glauk Konjufca, saying that the parties had been asked to propose names for the president.
“Glauk Konjufca said: ‘From the LDK and PDK, you propose names, we discuss them, evaluate them and give you answers. There were no such names”, said Haxhiu.
Haxhiu added that, if the criteria would be the people measured in the election through votes, then, according to her, the result of Glauk Konjufce should also be taken into account.
“If we enter with people who have been measured in the elections, then Glauk Konjufca has over 200,000 votes, I don’t know for sure. If we have party people, then where do we have Glauk Konjufca?”, she said.
