The former presidential couple, Eliza Reid and Guðni Th. Jóhannesson, were in the thrift store in the Forlag’s store at Fiskislóð in Reykjavík. It was a happy occasion because Eliza Reid was celebrating the publication of her book, Eliza Reid – and then I became First Lady. In the book, Eliza talks candidly about how her life was turned upside down when her husband became president.
She gives readers a glimpse into a world where formality rules and official visits and receptions are a big part of the job. In the book, she tells how she got used to it and was not afraid to speak Icelandic with a foreign accent. In the book, Eliza also tells about her upbringing in Canada, her years in the UK, traveling to distant places and what it was like to move to Iceland and become a working mother of four children.
The invitation was well received, as the photographs of photographer Eggerts Jóhannesson show.
