The hotel union of the province has noticed this behavior in which the citizens They decide to stay in the same city, but in a hotel.

In this 2026Ecuador will have an extended holiday of four consecutive days starting Thursday April 30 to Sunday, May 3.

The president of the Guayas Hotel Association (Ahotegu), Hugo Riveraexplained that there is a considerable group of Guayaquil residents who decide to stay in the city, but stay in a hotel.

“It is something relatively recent and super interesting,” explained Rivera, who points out that this behavior has been strengthened after the pandemic.

Unlike other stronger holidays, such as Carnival or July, May is considered a medium movement. Even so, the hotel sector projects a occupancy close to 65%.

This is explained, in part, because the month has more than one holiday, which disperses demand. However, hotels see an opportunity in short getaways and local consumption.

Packages and special rates in Guayaquil hotels

The offer for this holiday includes accessible packages in hotels of different categories.

Establishments began to promote their packages on social networks such as Grand Hotel Guayaquilwhich maintains promotions with services included, while the hotel Pacific Port Aim for couples packages with breakfast and additional benefits from $66.

In the first one contemplates rates from $70which includes access to pool and sauna, training terrace and gym.

Added to this are chains like Hilton Colon and the Radisson Hotel Guayaquil with rates ranging from $70 up to $142 plus taxes for enjoyment as a couple or family.

The rise of the “day pass” in hotels

One of the formats that is growing the most is day pass. According to the hotel union, this modality allows users to enjoy facilities without needing to spend the night.

“On holiday, The rates are much more flexible. You come with your family, with your children, you enjoy the facilities, and there are many people who do that,” said the leader.

In some cases, the difference between staying alone for the day or spending the night is minimal. For example, in the Tryp by Wyndham Guayaquil a day pass is handled $80 more taxes, but if the customer staying to sleep is difficult $110. “The difference is not that much and it already includes breakfast and dinner,” he explained.

Rates vary depending on the area, according to the Ahotegu. In the city center, day passes can be found from $35.

In the north, the ‘full day’ exceed the $80. For example, a hotel in the north of the city offers a package for the day in $110 including tax for two adults or with two children up to 12 years old.

Hotel gastronomy as a new attraction

Beyond lodging, hotels are betting heavily on their gastronomic offer. Breakfasts buffetlunches and local proposals have become an attraction during the holidays and that is what is aimed at in this one that starts the April 30.

“Guayaquil has broken that stigma that hotel restaurant It is for guests only. Now there is a culture of going to consume, even without staying,” said Ahotegu.

In that line, the buffets They are located in an average range of $20 to $25and on holidays they usually include traditional dishes or international cuisine.

Hotels in the north of the city, for example, have planned for the holiday Guayaquil foodwhich includes dishes such as tigrillo, encebollado and roast beef. Promotions were also devised in the cafeterias and restaurants of the establishments to advance, on this holiday, celebrations for Mother’s Day.

Hotel workers in Guayaquil indicated that the expectation is modest for this new holiday. “People choose only one holiday if there are two in the month. You have to see if they come on this one or on the 24th.””indicated a collaborator.

“For many Guayaquil residents, rest no longer means going out to the beach or going to the mountains. Some who have the possibility pay for something different and go to a hotel to enjoy the day”said another worker. (YO)
