In the midst of complaints from certain carriers, the Minister of Government, Nataly Morillo, anticipated that the Executive is analyzing the expansion of compensation to intraprovincial and interprovincial transportation for the elimination of the diesel subsidy, a measure in force since September 12, 2025.
“We are analyzing the extension of transportation compensation for one or two more months,” said Morillo on the night of this Monday, April 20, 2026, in an interview with Teleamazonas, referring to the aforementioned modalities.
The Secretary of State reviewed that Since November, meetings have been held with more than 235 transportation organizations in search of agreements so as not to harm the citizen.
Likewise, he stated that the Government allocated $177.5 million in compensation for 57,000 transporters after the elimination of this subsidy.
Meanwhile, Nataly Morillo observed that “there is always a washing of hands with the Decentralized Autonomous Governments (GAD)”, as she explained that this was what happened when the law for efficiency in spending in the GAD or called “70-30” was processed, precisely, she said, “for investment spending and current spending, where the GADs, the Mayors and the Prefectures were asked that 70% be for the drinking water, for sewage, for sanitation and for roads, and not for more pipones.”
The Government Minister also said that no stoppages of the transport service are expected in the short term, after conversations with leaders of this sector.
On March 31, through Executive Decree 352, President Daniel Noboa extended the compensation deadlines for intraprovincial and interprovincial transportationwhich ended in April and extended it for another month. (YO)
