Google’s Sundar Pichai hails “amazing” quarter during earnings call as investors fret about delayed Gemini 3.5 Pro

Google CEO Sundar Pichai hailed an “amazing” second quarter for the company during its earnings call on Wednesday (July 22, 2026), striking an optimistic note even as the company faces rising concerns over a delayed AI model.

Alphabet revenues grew 24% year-over-year, while Google Cloud revenues reached 82% growth, according to Google’s quarterly reports, which cited the demand for AI infrastructure and AI solutions.

Mr. Pichai used the opportunity to promote the company’s AI investments, noting that they were “redefining what’s possible across every part of our business.”

He also defended the company’s frontier models amidst worries about the delayed release of the Gemini 3.5 Pro model that was expected last month, according to a Reuters report. Mr. Pichai instead stressed on the future release of Gemini 4, saying that he felt people would be “pleased,” reported Reuters.

Investors and AI users were anticipating the launch of Gemini 3.5 Pro, hoping that the new model would offer cutting-edge AI coding abilities comparable to those offered by models from OpenAI and Anthropic.

However, Mr. Pichai focused on the value that Google’s AI offerings were bringing to enterprises and everyday users.

“Our popular AI features are driving Search query growth. Gemini models now process 22 billion API tokens per minute and the Gemini App has 950 million monthly active users. We are seeing strong demand for our security solutions, and our new Gemini 3.5 Flash Cyber delivers highly cost-efficient performance at the frontier,” said Mr. Pichai, according to the company’s quarterly report.

“These outstanding results show that our differentiated, full stack approach to AI is delivering real, measurable value for consumers, customers, and our partners globally,” he added.
