In February 2021, then Water and Sewerage Corporation Chairman Adrian Gibson sent an email to his fiancée and told her to “follow the game plan”.
The email exchange between Gibson and Alexandria Mackey was entered into evidence as prosecutors seek to make the case that the politician was the mastermind behind a scheme to award contracts to companies that he owned.
The heated exchange began when Mackey asked Gibson whether a property was “for you or us”.
While berating Mackey over her financial decisions by paying off loans and bills, Gibson allegedly told her to stick to the plan.
In a February 3, 2021 email sent at 12:36 p.m., Gibson allegedly wrote: “Play your position; follow the game plan, and stop questioning what’s being done.
“This is carefully thought out real-life stuff, led by yours truly. I trust my judgment more than anyone else’s. I’m deliberate, logical, not led by emotions and critically analytical, and I have planned every single thing. Given the same, I am open to nothing and no one impeding, disrupting, making mistakes, side-tracking, fire-bombing the agenda.”
Gibson also questioned Mackey’s motive about asking if it was for you or us, saying that she was looking out for herself.
He asked, “Would you have even thought to send me such an email if you had not seen all that money?”
Mackey has previously testified that on instructions from Gibson, she incorporated Elite Maintenance and Baha Maintenance for the sole purpose of getting jobs from the corporation.
She said to her knowledge the company was awarded no-bid contracts for landscaping and painting.
Mackey alleged that she and Gibson co-owned the companies.
She testified that the companies had no employees and that Gibson handpicked subcontractors to carry out the work.
According to Mackey, Baha Maintenance was paid $248,326.40 to paint the George Moss Building and Somerset House, but the subcontractor that carried out the work, Sparktacular, received $74,000.
She said Baha Maintenance was paid $538,660.08 for refurbishing two water tanks.
Mackey said on instructions from Gibson, Elite made a deposit of $125,000 on a property at Shirley Park Avenue.
She said that money from the contracts was also used to buy cars for his rental car company on Long Island and to renovate his home.
Director of Public Prosecutions Cordell Frazier asked Mackey if she used any of the money for herself.
The witness replied that she had used some money without Gibson’s permission and he called her a thief, accusing her of stealing $200,000.
As a result, he had her transfer money from Elite’s account to that of Edwaleno Holdings.
Gibson is on trial along with former Water and Sewerage General Manager Elwood Donaldson Jr, Joann Knowles, Jerome Missick and Peaches Farquharson, who were all connected to companies that received contracts from the corporation.
They have denied the allegations.
Frazier is assisted by Karine MacVean.
Damian Gomez KC, Murrio Ducille KC, Bryan Bastian, Ryan Eve, Raphael Moxey and Ian Cargill represent the accused at their trial before Senior Justice Cheryl Grant-Thompson.
