Children of Gaza return to school
After nearly three years of war, thousands of Palestinian children in the Gaza Strip returned to school, but the new academic year began in exceptional circumstances, inside damaged schools, temporary learning spaces, and tents, amid a severe shortage of educational supplies and widespread destruction of the Strip’s infrastructure..
In the Nuseirat camp in central Gaza, parents accompanied their children to a school of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA). Students lined up in the morning queue, before heading to classrooms that were no longer as they were before the war. Some students were forced to sit on the floor because there were not enough seats.
Humanitarian organizations are seeking to gradually restore the educational process, as the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) reported its readiness to provide 359 temporary education spaces throughout the Gaza Strip.
