On the penultimate day of the European Weightlifting Championship in Batumi, Armenia had two representatives in the men’s up to 110 kg competition, Garik Karapetyan and Simon Martirosyan.
Garik Karapetyan performed excellently and showed serious will to win. Having recorded 189 kg in the snatch exercise, Garik settled for a small bronze. However, he had no equal in the push-up exercise. Holding the 226 kg barbell above his head, Garik Karapetyan not only won the small gold, but also won the title of European champion for the third time with 415 kg.
Simon Martirosyan could not fully demonstrate his capabilities in this weight category, who took 6th place with 183+215=398 kilograms.
