The Tripoli Criminal Court has sentenced four individuals to prison terms ranging from 12 to 22 years after convicting them of migrant smuggling and human trafficking.
According to the Office of the Attorney General, the defendants were part of a criminal network organizing illegal migration from the coastal city of Zuwara. Investigations revealed their involvement in trafficking migrants, kidnapping individuals, and extorting their families for ransom by sending video evidence of abuse.
In its latest ruling, the court sentenced the first defendant to 22 years in prison, the second to 15 years, and the third to 12 years, while the fourth received a 12-year sentence in absentia.
