The Metropolitan Police Department on Tuesday sent papers to prosecutors on Shinnosuke Abe, former manager of the Yomiuri Giants, on suspicion of assaulting his eldest daughter.
The MPD is believed to have attached a recommendation for leniency.
Abe, 47, has admitted to the allegations, according to investigative sources.
In the case referred to prosecutors, Abe is suspected of grabbing his 18-year-old daughter by the collar and pushing her down at his home in Shibuya Ward in the capital at around 7 p.m. on May 25.
Police arrested Abe at the scene but released him shortly afterward. He was later questioned on a voluntary basis.
According to the MPD and other sources, Abe allegedly assaulted his eldest daughter after she talked back to him when he tried to intervene in a quarrel between her and her younger sister.
He was drunk at the time, and his second daughter and his wife were also present at the scene, according to the sources. No injuries were reported.
The eldest daughter reported the incident to a child consultation center on her own after consulting the ChatGPT generative artificial intelligence chatbot. Abe was arrested at the scene by police officers who had responded to a report from the child consultation center and was released before dawn on May 26. Later the same day, Abe held a news conference to announce his resignation as Giants manager and offered an apology.
