Two men in their 50s, arrested together with a 20-year-old during a police raid of a home in Fasitoo-Uta, have been released with all charges against them dismissed against them, after the youth confessed in Court that the utensils and marijuana all belonged to him.
One of the men is former Catholic Deacon Wilson Simeti, 51, also known as Willow Matafeo.
His son, Maauga Divine Pasefika Simeti, will be sentenced next month after pleading guilty to the drug-related charges brought against all three defendants.
The young man took the stand on Monday morning and told the Court that the marijuana and meth utensils confiscated by Police during the raid, belonged to him and not his father or to Letasi Peter Pesamino.
“Lau Afioga o a’u e ona fualaau faasaina na maua i le aso na o atu ai le osofaiga a leoleo, e leai ni mea na maua i lo’u tama ma Letasi..”
“Your Honour, I own the drugs (marijuana) found during the police raid, nothing was found on my Dad or Letasi..” said the 20-year-old defendant.
In 2024, Wilson Simeti was one of the Catholic Deacons suspended by the Archbishop while investigations were conducted into illicit drugs.
After the boy’s confession in the Supreme Court on Monday, Prosecutor Maiavatele Timothy Fesili applied to withdraw charges against Wilson Simeti and Letasi Peter Pesamino.
His Honour Justice Fepuleai Ameperosa Roma granted the application to withdraw all charges against the two defendants.
Outside the Courtroom, Mr Wilson Simeti happily told family and friends that all charges against him had been dropped because police found nothing in his possession.
The Court will hand down the sentence for 20 year old Maauga Divine Pasefika Simeti, on Monday 4th April 2026.
