Netherlands – Sweden: Ukraine’s offender will try to secure success
“Oranje” took the lead twice in the match against Japan, but in the end settled for a draw. The Swedes continue to win in official matches under the leadership of Graham Potter. In the first round, the Scandinavians defeated Tunisia – 5:1.
The Netherlands is, of course, a much more serious opponent. At the same time, the victory practically guarantees the “blue-yellow” entry to the playoffs. So there will definitely be no problems with motivation.

History of confrontation:
Due to their geographical proximity, these national teams quite often crossed paths in the qualifying rounds of the World and European championships. According to WorldFootball.net, the teams played 25 matches against each other.
The first of them took place back in 1908 at the Olympic Games. Then the Dutch won with a score of 2:0. The general statistics are also on the side of Oranje – 11 wins for 8 losses and 6 draws.
The Swedes can boast of the biggest victory in the history of this confrontation – 6:1 in 1954.
These national teams also met at the 1974 World Cup. Then the match of the group stage ended with no goals scored.
Estimated compositions
There was information that Bart Verbruggen was injured, so his participation in the match remains in question. Newcastle winger Anthony Elanga could miss the game for the Swedes, who has a bruise.
-
Netherlands: Verbruggen – Van de Ven, Van Dijk, Van Geke, Dumfries – Reinders, de Jong, Gravenberch – Hakpo, Malen, Summerville
-
Sweden: Nordfeldt – Lagerbilke, Lindelof, Gien – Gudmundsson, Bernhardsson, Nygren, Karlström, Stroud – Isaac, Dokeres
Germany – Cote d’Ivoire: the battle of the group leaders
Both teams started the tournament with wins and now play for sole leadership in Group E. Germany in the first round left no chance World Cup debutant Curacao – 7:1. Julian Nagelsmann’s team showed excellent execution and produced the most productive match of the tournament.
Ivory Coast, on the other hand, won a more pragmatic victory over Ecuador – 1:0. The Africans relied on defensive discipline and waited for their chance at the end of the match. The winner of this match almost guarantees a place in the playoffs.
History of confrontation:
The history of personal meetings between these national teams is very short. Germany and Ivory Coast have played each other only once – in a friendly match in November 2009. Then the teams parted peacefully with the score 2:2, and Lukasz Podolski scored a double for the Germans.
Therefore, the upcoming match will be the first official meeting in the history of this confrontation and the first at the World Championships.
Estimated compositions:
The Germans have all football players available. The team from Africa will not be able to count on Gel Duet, who spent 89 minutes on the field against Ecuador – injury.
-
Germany: Neuer – Kimmich, Rüdiger, Schlotterback, Braun – Pavlovich, Nmecha – Wirtz, Undav, Musiala – Havertz
-
Ivory Coast: Yahya Fofana – Singo, Kossuna, Agbadou, Conan – Diomade, Seko Fofana, Kessier, Diallo – Pepe, Bonny
Ecuador – Curaçao: another chance for the debutant
For Curaçao, this match is a new chance to rewrite history. In the first round, the debutants of the World Championship fell under the German rink and lost with a score of 1:7. Despite the defeat, the national team still made history – Livano Comenencia scored Curacao’s first goal at the World Cup.

Ecuador started much more decently in terms of the score, but not in terms of the result. The South Americans narrowly lost to Cote d’Ivoire (0:1), creating several good opportunities to score goals. Now Sebastian Beccaceche’s team has no right to make a mistake, because they still have a meeting with Germany ahead of them.
A victory for the Ecuadorians will leave them with at least some chance of reaching the playoffs, while any loss of points could seriously complicate the tournament prospects.
For Latin Americans, this is the fifth participation in the World Cup, but three of the previous four times they were eliminated after the group stage. The exception is the 2006 World Cup. Then, in the first two matches, the Ecuadorians beat Poland (2:0) and Costa Rica (3:0), and in the last round they lost… to the Germans (0:3). As we can see, it is better not to leave the “Bundestim” for the last.
History of confrontation:
Ecuador and Curaçao have never met before in either official or friendly matches. Thus, the upcoming match will be the first in the history of the confrontation between these national teams.
Estimated compositions:
The teams approach the confrontation without personnel losses.
- Ecuador: Galindes – Franco, Ordoñez, Pacho, Incapié – Caicedo, Vito – Angulo, Yeboa, Plata – Valencia
- Curaçao: Rom – Bazun, Obispo, Florenus, Fonville – Juninho Bacuna, Leandro Bacuna, Comenencia – Chong, Locadia, Hansen
Tunisia – Japan: “Eagles of Carthage” against “Samurai”
Tunisia had a bad start to the World Cup, suffering a painful defeat against Sweden (1:5). After that, the Football Federation of the country resorted to a radical step and changed the head coach already during the tournament.
Instead of Sabri Liamushi for the match against Japan, the Tunisians will lead Hervé Renard. The experienced specialist has agreed a contract until the end of the World Cup, so a great performance against Japan and then against the Netherlands could guarantee him a new deal.
The Japanese can be satisfied with the start. The representatives of Asia played twice in the game with the Netherlands and won an important draw – 2:2. Considering the tournament situation, Hajime Moriyasu’s team looks like the favorite for the upcoming confrontation.
For Tunisia, defeat will effectively mean goodbye to the chances of getting out of the group. If Japan wins, it will get significantly closer to the playoffs before the final round.
History of confrontation:
The national teams of Tunisia and Japan met each other six times. The advantage on the side of the Asian team is five wins and one draw.
Tunisia’s only win came in 2022, when they sensationally defeated the Samurai 3-0. However, in the other 5 matches, the Eagles of Carthage did not even score – 7:0 in favor of the Japanese.
For the teams, this will be the first meeting in the history of the world championships.
Estimated compositions:
The Japanese will not be able to count on Takefusa Kubo. The star of Real Sociedad left the stadium in the cart after the game with the Netherlands.
