Juchitán, Oax. – Fishermen and Salina Cruz authorities today demanded an envoy from Petróleos Mexicanos (PEMEX)to a meeting in the municipal palace, for the spills and pollution, but they did not find any commitment from the oil company.
The man from PEMEX, (identified as the engineer Francisco Javier García Gutiérrezfrom the social care area), “he only listened to the complaints and demands, he barely said that he would inform his superiors” about the reason for the meeting, said the authority of La Ventosa, Margarita Domínguez.
At the end of the meeting, the fishermen once again showed anger, distrust and concern after the envoy of the State Commission for the Protection against Sanitary Risks of Oaxaca (COEPRISO)recommended that marine products from La Ventosa Bay not be consumed for now, which generated uncertainty.

“Obviously, the fishermen and the authorities were concerned about this recommendation,” said the director of Ecology of the Salinacruz government, Diana González, who recalled that during the days 23, 24 and 25 of this monththey inspected the area and contamination was evident.
During the meeting, the municipal president of Salina Cruz, Daniel Mendez Sosainsisted that PEMEX remove the emitters that leave the refinery into the sea, where they discharge their waste and contaminate the area.
“We fishermen are going to insist that PEMEX hire a company specialized in hydrocarbon recovery and remediation of the damage and to remove its emitters from La Ventosa. They have already contaminated a lot. We already said it, we are not your septic tank,” they said.
