First favorite reliably over the first hurdle
The number one tennis player in the world, Jannik Sinner, sovereignly began the march to the only missing laurel. In the first round of Roland Garros, he defeated local invitee Clement Tabur 6:1, 6:3 and 6:4.
The third day of the main tournament at Roland Garros was marked by high temperatures. Thermometers measured 34 degrees Celsius, which was a new May record in the French capital.
The Roland Garros medical service received about 50 people on Monday and Tuesday who had health problems due to the heat, and the players complained about the high temperatures in addition to the spectators. But even the record temperatures did not reach the South Tyrolean alive, who already played in the Paris final last year.
Last year, Sinner had to concede superiority to Carlos Alcaraz, who is absent from the tournament this year due to injury, so the 24-year-old is the clear favorite for the final celebration. “Despite the fact that I was playing against the home team, the atmosphere in the stadium was exceptional and fair. Thank you, fans, for welcoming me here,” he said after the opening victory Jannik Sinner.
Due to the series of many consecutive victories and the heat in Paris, the number one player in the ATP ranking emphasizes that he has to make very good decisions about the amount of training and rest in the next few days. “I’m happy to be in this position, but due to fatigue it is necessary to find the right balance between training and rest. Fortunately, the Grand Slam tournament is now on the way, which always gives a player some extra energy.”
In the second round of the tournament, Sinner will face a somewhat tougher opponent, as Argentinean Juan Manuel Cerundolo can be very unfavorable on the sand.
