Hartwall has manufactured and distributed PepsiCo’s fizzy drinks in Finland since 1999.
Finnish beverage company Hartwall will no longer manufacture, sell or distribute PepsiCo products after their current agreement concludes at the end of 2028, the firm announced in a press release on Tuesday.
Carlsberg Group is set to be PepsiCo’s new bottler in Finland.
Hartwall has produced and distributed PepsiCo beverages — including Pepsi, 7UP and Mountain Dew — since 1999.
Danish firm Royal Unibrew, which licences PepsiCo products in Denmark, Finland and the Baltic states — among other countries — confirmed that its licensing deal in Finland was ending.
“From 2029, Royal Unibrew will no longer produce, sell, and distribute the PepsiCo portfolio in Denmark (incl. German border trade), Finland, and the Baltic states,” it said. Unibrew noted that its partnership with PepsiCo in Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg was not affected by the new plans.
“Royal Unibrew would have welcomed the opportunity to continue the partnership; however, it has not been possible to reach an agreement,” Royal Unibrew’s press release read.
Hartwall’s CEO, Kalle Järvinen, echoed those sentiments.
“PepsiCo has been an important partner for us in Finland for 27 years, and we have been among PepsiCo’s most successful markets in Europe. Together, for example, we have grown Pepsi Max into the most popular sugar-free soft drink in Finland. We would have liked to continue the partnership, but reaching an agreement proved impossible,” Järvinen said in Hartwall’s release.
Both companies confirmed that Hartwall will continue to manufacture and distribute PepsiCo products until the end of 2028.
Carlsberg to be PepsiCo’s new bottler in Finland
The Denmark-based Carlsberg Group announced on Tuesday that it would be PepsiCo’s new bottler in Finland.
“The Carlsberg Group is pleased to announce the expansion of its strategic partnership with PepsiCo in a new agreement to become the PepsiCo bottler in Denmark, Finland and the three Baltic states as of 1 January 2029,” the company said in a press release on Tuesday.
Carlsberg has been PepsiCo’s bottler in Sweden and Norway for over 25 years.
Carlsberg has manufactured Coca-Cola in Finland. However, as the same firm cannot market the two main competing cola brands, it will stop manufacturing Coca-Cola.
The development makes the future of Coca-Cola in Finland unclear.
Edited at 12:32 on 21 April 2026 to add that Carlsberg is slated to distribute Pepsi products in Finland.
