“The unfortunate events in which our colleague lost his life” were repudiated by the university community, which also joined with solidarity and deep respect in the mourning of Joel’s family and friends,” he indicated.
He also demanded clarification of the case and justice for Cristóbal Castillo.
“We demand from the corresponding authorities the clarification of this event, which occurred in Cuautitlán Izcalli, State of Mexico, as well as an effective investigation that allows the person or persons responsible for this crime to be brought to justice,” he said.
The Faculty reiterated its absolute rejection of the violence and called to guarantee security conditions for its student community.
The municipal president, Luis Daniel Serrano Palaciosspoke about the death of a student from the Cuautitlán Faculty of Higher Studies of the National Autonomous University of Mexico, pointing out that it was a direct attack.
During the town hall session that took place this Friday morning, Serrano Palacios also mentioned that the municipal government has received complaints from students of that institution related to practices of drug dealing inside the campus.
“It is important to say that even yesterday when we had the information we did not want to establish a position because in a homicide, as all of you know, we still had it as unknown and it is up to the Prosecutor’s Office, particularly the one specialized in homicides, to take the official position,” said about Joel Ulises Cristóbal Castillo, an FES student who was wounded by a gunshot and therefore lost his life yesterday afternoon.
The issue was addressed at the Peace Table and they identified a home with cameras, added the mayor of Cuautitlán Izcalli, but yesterday they did not find anyone at that site and he said that another procedure will be carried out today.
“The manner draws our attention, that is, it is a direct attack. There was no robbery and no sign of violence prior to the shooting. The type of caliber also caught our attention. It is not a common caliber that is used more commonly, something that the Prosecutor’s Office itself is also following,” explained Serrano.
In the town hall session, the municipal president said that many students from the FES itself have come to point out some drug dealing practices within the institution, which is why they will establish contact with the director.

He mentioned that they have closed establishments around both campuses of the Faculty of Higher Studies “to reduce consumption, but it seems to me that the university authorities, within the scope of their autonomy, should also do the same within the institution.”
“We are very sorry for what happened and we will continue working together with the government to clarify what happened,” the mayor concluded.
