SAN MARINO – Postponement of the examination of the Committee of Permanent Representatives to the EU on the Agreement, sees, after the declarations of the Foreign Secretary, the reactions of the political forces, starting from DML: “The stop that arrived at Coreper on the Association Agreement with the European Union represents much more than a simple technical slowdown. It’s a heavy political signalwhich certifies yet another failure of a management presented for years as “historic”, “irreversible” and now close to the finish line. Today, however, San Marino once again finds itself at a standstill, without certainties and with an inevitably weakened international credibility.
For months, Foreign Secretary Luca Beccari has reassured the countrytalking about a safe route, respected deadlines and consolidated European support. Any doubts were dismissed as alarmism. Every criticism was described as instrumental. Yet the reality of the facts tells otherwise: postponements, political obstacles, corrective addendums, tensions with some Member States and now a rejection that risks compromising years of work.
Foreign policy is not propaganda: results count.
Faced with this scenario, continuing to pretend nothing happened would be an even more serious mistake. In any mature democracya failure of this magnitude would result in a immediate political responsibility. Not out of personal fury, but out of respect for the institutions.
Because of this Beccari’s resignation should not be considered a provocation by the opposition, but a necessary act of political seriousness. Those who have guided the European dossier for years, claiming every positive step, cannot today place the blame on Brussels, on the technicalities or on the other member countries.
San Marino needs transparency, a new strategy and above all to recover credibility in international relations. But this can hardly happen by keeping the person who led the country into this dead end at the helm of foreign policy.
The time for announcements is over. The political responsibilities are enormous and clear, let us take note of it”, concludes Motus Liberi.
