The head of government, Xavier Espotparticipated today in a meeting organized by Business Council Alliance for Iberoamerica (CEAPI) in New York, as part of the 81st General Assembly of the United Nations. The meeting brought together a delegation of more than 40 Ibero-American presidents and businessmen. Before Espot’s intervention, lto the president and general secretary of CEAPI, Núria Vilanova and Ana Pastor, they highlighted that Andorra is part of Iberoamerica and pointed out that the country’s GDP grew by 4% in 2025.
Espot has focused part of the intervention on the process of diversification of the economy. The head of government has explained that the executive is working to expand activity beyond trade, tourism, construction and the banking sectorwith the aim of incorporating areas of added value such as biomedicine and innovation. In this sense, he has defended the need for the agreement to enter into force of association with the European Union.
The head of government has affirmed that the agreement it would allow Andorra to aspire to be part of the European internal market and assume the four community freedoms: the movement of people, goods and capital and the provision of services, without becoming a member state of the European Union.
During the meeting, Espot also presented several data about the country, including a population of 90,000 inhabitants, a nominal GDP of almost 4,000 million euros in 2025, a GDP per capita of 44,000 euros, a life expectancy of 84.1 years, a public surplus of 2.2% and a public debt of less than 30% of GDP. He also pointed out that the budgets focus on public health and education, infrastructure and housing.
Precisely, Espot has located housing as the main current challenge and has indicated that the Government has allocated 150 million of euros during the last four years. Among the initiatives, he highlighted the creation of a public real estate park for rent at an affordable price which, according to him, will soon reach 650 flats. Subsequently, the debate was opened to the representatives of the CEAPI delegation, made up of presidents and managers of companies and institutions such as Airbus LATAM, Grupo Bimbo, BID, CAF, Xcalibur, Fundación Juanfe, Coloncorp and Pérez-Llorca.
