These tables represent 0.2% of the total planned for the elections, but their delay affected 55,261 voters, who can now exercise their right to vote in the same precincts, until 6:00 pm, in accordance with the extension approved by the National Election Jury (JNE).
The extension of the process was requested by the ONPE as an exceptional measure to guarantee the suffrage of citizens harmed by the lack of electoral material during Sunday.
The electoral body reported that the problem originated from non-compliance with the transportation service contracted to distribute the material in Metropolitan Lima, which generated delays in delivery and the impossibility of installing the tables at the scheduled time.
The head of the ONPE, Piero Corvetto Salinasannounced that legal and criminal actions will be initiated against the company responsible for the transfer, and assured that the institution will collaborate with all investigations carried out by entities such as the Public Ministry, the Comptroller General of the Republic and the National Board of Justice.
In parallel, the ONPE has been responding to information requirements about the logistics service contracting process, amid questions about the recorded failures.
Since Sunday night, the 126 Decentralized Offices of Electoral Processes (ODPE) They began the withdrawal of electoral material, which includes minutes and voting cards. The latter, for the first time, will be preserved until after the official proclamation of the results of the general elections.
