On Wednesday, 29 April, the National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies (STATEC) published its latest figures on the Grand Duchy. By incorporating administrative data into its methodology, the statistics office confirms that it is now able to provide “reliable and precise indicators on living conditions in Luxembourg”.
STATEC found that in 2025 the poverty threshold for a single person living alone was €2,502 per month. This clearly shows that one in seven people in the country lives in poverty – 15.4% of women and 14.2% of men. The situation is even worse among young people, where more than one in five (22.2%) lives at risk of poverty.
The median wage, which is the wage where half the population earns more and half earns less, is €4,170 per person. Per household, the disposable median income, meaning after taxes and social contributions have been deducted, is €6,522 per month.
According to STATEC, the top 20% of the wealthiest people in the country have, on average, 4.6 times more available income than the bottom 20% of the poorest people in the Grand Duchy.
