Members of the Dominica State College Alumni Association (DSAA) and student volunteers spent Dominica’s National Community Day of Service giving a shared area at the Dominica China Friendship Hospital (DCFH) in Roseau a fresh look.
The four-hour activity, scheduled from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., was carried out in collaboration with Lifeline Ministries.
The volunteers worked together to paint a mural intended to brighten an area used by patients, their relatives and hospital
employees. The association said the project offers a practical way to contribute to the community while bringing former and current students together through volunteerism.
The DSAA Membership and Engagement Committee selected the national observance for the activity, aligning its efforts with
communities across Dominica participating in service projects. Some of the DSC students involved also volunteered at the association’s White Sunset event in October, reflecting continued student participation in its initiatives.
DSAA President Wayne Liburd said the association was pleased to join Lifeline Ministries and students in creating a lasting contribution to the hospital and the people who depend on its services. Board Secretary and Membership and Engagement Committee Chair Dr. Rosette Rabess said the mural represented more than a painting project, highlighting he value of alumni and students working collectively to support their community.
The mural activity formed part of the DSAA’s wider programme of community and engagement initiatives. Other activities include the White Sunset with a Hint of Creole” celebration, a Family and Friends Fun Day at Rosalie River, and a book and stationery drive for primary schools. The association is encouraging alumni interested in future volunteer opportunities to register at sifocolalumni.raklet.com/Apply.
Membership is free for current Dominica State College students who have attended the institution for at least one year.
