WEST PALM BEACH (APF).- The president of the United States, donald trumpassured that Washington could take control of Cuba “almost immediately” and threatened to move the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln towards the coasts of the island once “the work is finished” in Half East in the war against Iran.
The American president gave a speech as part of an event at the Raymond F. Kravis Center for the Performing Arts in the city of West Palm beachFlorida, where he postulated: “Back from Iran, we will have one of our greats… perhaps the USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier, the largest in the world. We’ll have it come closer, stop about 100 meters from the shore, and they’ll say, ‘Thank you very much. We surrender’”.

This Friday, Trump ordered the imposition of new sanctions aimed at suffocating the Cuban government, which this May 1 called for a demonstration to “defend the homeland” and denounce threats of US military aggression.
The American president considers that the communist island, located 150 kilometers off the coast of Florida, continues to represent an “extraordinary threat” to US national security.
For its part, Miguel Diaz–Canelthe Cuban president, rejected the new sanctions and described the blockade as “genocidal” in a message in x. “Today, the US government has announced new coercive measures that reinforce the brutal #GenocidalBlockade, as evidence of its moral poverty,” Díaz-Canel wrote in x.
“No honest person can accept the excuse that Cuba is a threat to that country.“Díaz-Canel added, pointing out Washington for having “intimidating and arrogant behavior.”
The sanctions, detailed in a presidential decree and aimed at increasing pressure on Havana amid its economic crisis, specifically target foreign banks that collaborate with the Cuban government and impose immigration restrictions.
In addition to the embargo in force since 1962, Washington, who does not hide his desire for a regime change in Havanaimposed an oil blockade on Cuba in January, allowing only a ship loaded with Russian crude to enter the country.
The announcement of new sanctions occurs on Workers’ Day, a day that Cuba celebrated with a parade in front of the US embassy in Havana, attended by revolutionary leader Raúl Castro, 94, and President Díaz-Canel.
The chancellor, Bruno Rodriguezdenounced the new sanctions, and said that they constitute “a collective punishment of the Cuban people.” “The United States government is alarmed and responds with new illegal and abusive unilateral coercive measures against Cuba,” Rodríguez wrote in a message on x in which he alluded to the May 1 demonstration.
Despite the tense situation, both countries hold talks.
On April 10, high-level diplomatic meetings were held in Havana. On that occasion, a US official met with Raúl Guillermo Rodríguez Castro, grandson of Raúl Castro.
Under the motto “we defend the country”, the government called on employees of state companies, public officials and members of the Cuban Communist Party (PCC) to gather at dawn in a plaza on the Malecón, in front of the US embassy, in what was called “anti-imperialist platformAuthorities claimed that several hundred thousand people participated.
