Dominican Republic received 3 million 710 1,374 visitors in the first quarter, a “record” for a similar period and a growth of 10.8% compared to the first three months of last year, as reported this Monday by the Ministry of Tourism (Mitur).
The minister of Tourism Dominican, David Colladoreported in a document that in the first quarter they arrived 2,603,777 visitors by air and 1,106,597 through cruise ships.
The official highlighted the “favorable” behavior of Dominican tourism last month, despite the global environment.
Collado indicated that another “record” number of visitors was also achieved in March for a period of one month with the arrival of 1,305,866 visitors.
The issuing countries that contributed the most visitors in March were USA with 45%, Canada with 23%, Argentina, 5%, Colombia, 4%, Germany, France, United Kingdom, Spain and Mexicoa 2% and Perua 1%.
The airports that received the most tourists last month were Punta Cana (this) with 53%; The Americas (which serves Santo Domingo) with 25%; Cibao (north) with 10%; Puerto Plata (north) 5%; The Fig Tree (province of Santo Domingo) a 3%; The Roman (this) a 3% and Samana (northeast) with a 1%.
The official also indicated that in the January and March period hotel occupancy exceeded the 86%.
Last year, Dominican Republic received 11,676,901 visitors between January and December, the largest number ever recorded in the country, consolidating its leadership in the region, indicated the Ministry of Tourism at the beginning of the year.
