The Civil Police carried out an operation this Wednesday (29) targeting the rapper Oruam and his family: his father, Márcio dos Santos Nepomuceno, the Marcinho VPthe mother, Márcia Gama dos Santos Nepomucenoand his brother, Lucas Santos Nepomuceno. According to the DRE (Narcotics Repression Department), the action aimed to dismantle the financial arm of the Red Command.
Oruam is fugitive since Februaryafter violating the use of electronic ankle braceletaccording to the state court. When contacted this Wednesday morning, his lawyer, Fernando Henrique Cardoso, said he would comment after having access to the process. The reporter returned contact at night, but received no response.
The operation also targeted suspects of leading the Red Command. A man identified as the faction’s financial operator was arrested.
The action carried out warrants at addresses linked to those under investigation in Jacarepaguá and Barra da Tijuca, in the southwest zone of Rio. Agents were also at a house in Oruam, in Angra dos Reis, on the Costa Verde of Rio de Janeiro.
Oruam was arrested in July 2025 after becoming a defendant for attempted murder against delegate Moyses Santana Gomes and officer Alexandre Alves Ferraz, from Civil Police of Rio de Janeiro. He passed 69 days in prison and left the place wearing a Spider-Man mask.
The artist had started using an electronic ankle bracelet when he left prison on September 30 last year. Since then, according to the State Secretariat for Penitentiary Administration, the equipment has recorded 66 violations, all attributed to lack of battery charging.
When contacted this morning, Márcia’s lawyer, Flávio Fernandes, said he is in the Police City to understand the new accusations.
Márcia had already been acquitted in a similar case, in which she was accused of serving as a link between her husband, Marcinho VP, who is serving a sentence in a federal prison, and drug traffickers from a criminal faction. At the beginning of this month, the Court also ordered the collection of another arrest warrant issued based on the same accusations. At the time, the defense maintained the illegality of the request, highlighting the absence of new evidence and the fact that the accusations had already been analyzed in a previous trial.
In November 2025, the Rio de Janeiro Court decided to keep Marcinho VP, 55, for another three years in the federal prison system. According to the police, he is the top leader of the Red Command and considered highly dangerous. His arrest took place in September 1996 accused of commanding drug trafficking in Complexo do Alemão, in the north zone, and has convictions totaling 55 years and eight months in prison.
Lawyer Flávia Froes, who works in Marcinho VP’s defense, stated this Wednesday morning that she would send a note regarding the operation. The reporter made contact again, around 8:30 pm, but received no response.
The police did not disclose whether Lucas, the rapper’s brother, already has a lawyer.
According to the police, the operation is the result of around a year of investigations, during which the police identified and mapped the functioning of the criminal organization’s financial structure. The work was based on the analysis of data extracted from seized electronic devices, in addition to the crossing of telematic information and financial transactions.
The report did not identify the defense of those wanted.
How the scheme worked
According to the investigation, the group maintained an organized scheme to receive, fragment and reinsert resources from drug trafficking into the formal market. These amounts were distributed by faction leaders to financial operators, responsible for distributing the money into third-party accounts, in addition to using it to pay expenses, acquire goods and hide assets.
The investigators also identified transactions that were incompatible with the income declared by those involved, which reinforces the suspicion of the illicit origin of the resources. The coordinated action of several members was also verified, including intermediaries who carried out successive transactions to make it difficult to trace the money.
During the investigation, dialogues were found between Carlos Costa Neves, known as Gardenal and identified as one of the main leaders of the faction, and a militia member. The conversations would indicate, according to the police, the continued influence of Marcinho VP as the group’s central leader.
The police are still investigating the participation of possible parties involved, such as companies used in money laundering and indirect beneficiaries of the resources.
