Governments around the world are entering a critical phase of digitalization. Citizens expect faster, simpler and more transparent services, while businesses and investors expect efficiency, predictability and convenient digital access.
Digitalization of public services has already proven its effectiveness as a tool for solving these problems. By rethinking the way services are designed and delivered using digital technologies, governments can improve governance, strengthen public trust and drive sustainable economic growth.
In Tajikistan, the initial stage of digitalization was focused on transferring the most popular government services to an online format. Thanks to national e-government platforms, citizens and businesses have access to hundreds of digital services – from civil registration to licenses, permits, tax services and social payments.
Processes that previously required multiple personal visits are now carried out remotely, which significantly reduces time and administrative costs, notes digitalization expert Faridun Yakubov.

According to him, the world is changing rapidly, and Tajikistan is not left behind. Entering the “Period of Digital Economy and Innovation (2025–2030)”, the country is moving from point solutions to systemic digital transformation.
“Today, digitalization is not an additional advantage, but a strategic necessity and the most important factor in improving the quality of life. Our goal is to provide a student in a remote mountain village with the same digital opportunities as a student in Europe. This is how true and sustainable growth is achieved,” emphasizes Yakubov.
A major breakthrough, he said, was the introduction of Starlink technology, which will radically change access to the Internet in hard-to-reach regions. For many years, residents of remote areas have faced connectivity restrictions, but satellite Internet will eliminate this barrier almost instantly.
“Schools and medical institutions that were previously isolated – especially in winter – will now be able to have stable high-speed access to the network at the level of urban centers,” says Yakubov.
Further integration with other government databases, development of AI-based services, expanding the capabilities of mobile applications and fully automated processes in the future will become a key factor in the sustainable economic development of the country and increasing trust between the state, business and society.
