Head coach of Denham Town High, Nicholas Smith, says yesterday’s 4-1 victory over Donald Quarrie High has put his team in an excellent position to qualify for the second round of the ISSA Manning Cup competition.
Denham Town, who recorded their third straight victory this season, were led by a hat trick from striker Almario Grant. Garfield Massop was the other scorer for Denham Town, who led 2-1 at half-time. Ricardo Williams scored for Donald Quarrie.
Smith said he was very pleased with his team’s performance, as it was the first time they were scoring four goals in a match this season.
“It is a good victory for us because it gives us an opportunity to step into the second round. We can now say that we have a foot into the second round at this time,” said Smith.
“We still have two games left in the zone and we would love to get some positive results from them, but we are in a good spot right now where we can be happy. The team is feeling good because they are getting stronger and stronger as each game comes,” he added.
Smith also noted that his team is growing in confidence as the season progresses.
“The last game against Ardenne High we only scored two goals and today we came out here and we scored four, so the team is getting better and they are now scoring the goals as soon as the chances present themselves,” Smith explained.
“This will also give the team some confidence because our next game is against Norman Manley High and we want to get a positive result there,” he said.
In another game played yesterday, Camperdown High blanked Jonathan Grant High 3- 0.
