At the initiative of the RA Ministry of High-Tech Industry, a discussion was held on April 16, dedicated to increasing the cyber security of critical information infrastructures, in particular, the “Electrical Networks of Armenia” company, and taking complex measures in that direction.
The meeting was attended by RA Minister of High-tech Industry Mkhitar Hayrapetyan, temporary manager of “Armenia Electric Networks” company Romanos Petrosyan, Deputy Minister of BTA Ruben Simonyan, Director of the Information Systems Agency of Armenia (IAS) Nerses Yeritsyan, as well as other representatives and leading specialists of the management staff of the Ministry, the Agency and the National Energy Agency.
Emphasizing the main topic under discussion, Minister Hayrapetyan emphasized that the state policy is aimed at consistently increasing the cyber resistance of critical infrastructures, which implies the implementation of periodic professional assessments, undertaking complex measures and their consistent implementation.
According to the minister, the energy sector has a key vital importance and a wide range of users, therefore, taking into account the possible risks, it was considered appropriate to start these processes from the ENE, considering it as an exemplary model for the introduction of cyber security standards in other strategic sectors.
In this context, Romanos Petrosyan, the temporary manager of the National Energy Agency, noted that there is a need for the development of internal capabilities, the involvement of expert and technical support, as well as the implementation of comprehensive programs aimed at the protection of infrastructures. Romanos Petrosyan emphasized that the state should assume the role of coordinator and guarantor, ensuring both the security of the systems and public trust.
During the discussion, the representatives of the Ministry of Education and Culture and the Ministry of Education and Culture emphasized the direct involvement of specialized state structures in the planned future processes.
At the end of the meeting, the parties reaffirmed their willingness to continue close tripartite cooperation, taking active steps to strengthen the sector’s resilience. The discussion was concluded with the agreement to make the professional consultations regular.
