Havana/The independent observatories Alas Tensas and Yo Sí Te Creo in Cuba reported this Monday a new feminicide, the third reported in just 30 hours by NGOs. This is the young Marian Pino Martínez, 23 years old, who was murdered by her ex-partner in her home in San Bernardo, Jagüey Grande, Matanzas, on April 10.
According to the organizations, the woman, mother of two girls, one four years old and the other months old, worked as an early childhood educator.
Although the case was mentioned by pages such as La Tijera or Nio reporting a crime, there are no details of the death, although it was reported that the young woman’s funeral was last Saturday morning.
In their message, the NGOs warned “about a new re-victimizing trend on social networks about Cuba towards women in the cycle of sexist violence.” They noted that “there are sufficient studies that explain why (women) return to the aggressor and how it is impossible to get out of the cycle without specialized help or a justice protocol for this specific problem.”
The case was reported just one day after the deaths reported this Sunday by the same platforms
The case was reported just a day after the deaths reported this Sunday on the same platforms. Both were registered on April 7. One of the victims is Maylén Fernández Soriano, 26 years old, murdered by her partner in their home in the town of San Juan, in the Jesús Menéndez municipality, in Las Tunas. The crime occurred in the presence of the couple’s common child, an element that aggravates the impact of violence, according to both observatories.
That same day, in the Las Maravillas community, in San Juan y Martínez, Pinar del Río, Yarisleidis Saavedra Hernández, also 26 years old, died. The young woman was trying to protect her mother from the aggression of her father, who later committed suicide. The cause of death was a shock hypovolemic and the case has been classified as “family feminicide”, which – according to Alas Tensas – “shows that gender violence is not limited to couple relationships and can happen within the family environment itself.”
Although Alas Tensas has reported 16 femicides so far this year, most of them in partner crimes, some deaths have been recorded in different circumstances, such as that of Yarisleidis Saavedra Hernández or that of Olimpia Pérez, a 79-year-old woman who was found dead in her home in Mayabeque, on March 2, which has led to 14ymedio to register 12 deaths due to sexist violence on the Island.
So far in 2026, Alas Tensas has also recorded nine murder attempts against women, and has another possible seven under investigation.

Violence also affects minors. Just last month, in just one week, two girls, ages 7 and 14, were murdered with violence, including sexual abuse. The first case was that of Gabriela Herrera Rodríguezwhich occurred on March 7 in the Bahía District, in Habana del Este. According to testimonies collected on social networks, the minor left her house at dusk with the intention of running an errand on the same block.
Seeing that he did not return, his mother mobilized relatives and neighbors, who organized a search until, hours later, at night, his body was found with signs of “extreme violence and other injuries” in the yard of the alleged aggressor, who was already arrested in Guanabacoa, the platform said.
The second was that of Katherine Cruz Aguileraa 14-year-old teenager, allegedly raped by her stepfather before the crime, for which, according to some testimonies, he is being detained. The attack occurred on March 14, in the La Caldosa neighborhood, in El Cornito, in Las Tunas.
“Finally she was found hidden inside bags that were in the house”
Days before, the communicator Niover Licea disclosed the first rumors of the case, which was initially reported as a disappearance. “Finally it was found hidden inside bags that were in the house.” Furthermore, he indicated, according to testimonies from neighbors, “the minor would have been the victim of an extremely violent attack,” which ended with a multiple stabbing.
In this regard, the NGOs warned about “the difficult situation that children, adolescents and older adults are going through in the current context of the humanitarian crisis in Cuba, which is also evident in femicides.”
