It’s not just businesses that have trouble deciding how to deal with May 8. Victory over Fascism Day is still a holiday, but Robert Fico’s fourth government has canceled the day off for this year.
Ministry of Labor under the leadership Erik Tomas z Hlas issued a guideline last week, which was supposed to solve employers’ uncertainty about how they should approach this, after the new working day. However, even the guidance did not clearly resolve the dilemma.
Some of Erik Tomáš’s coalition partners – i.e. the other ministers – also have uncertainty about how to deal with the May working holiday.
The SME daily has already published articles in which it focused on how private companies and schools will solve the work during May 8. Now he looked at how the state and its institutions will solve the situation and what impact it will have on public finances.
Some state offices have already confirmed that they will be open. Employees who will have to draw vacationso they can use this free day at least to complete the “paperwork”.
Two options, the resorts choose the more expensive one
Slovakia currently has a total of 14 ministries. According to of the state proposal budget, a total of 233,000 people should work in the central administration this year.
If we look at the data of the entire public administration, which also includes local government, a total of 445,000 people work for the state.
On May 8, SME daily asked all the ministries to find out how their approximately two hundred thousand employees will (not) work.
