The National College of Journalists (CNP) demands that the authorities clarify the causes of the death of journalist Yolimar Hidalgo, found dead in a house in the state of Aragua.
“To give peace of mind and agreement to family members and friends, we request that the investigations that lead to the clarification of the death of the communicator be speeded up, to provide the answers that may be necessary,” said the CNP in a statement published in X this Tuesday, reports the EFE agency.
Hidalgo’s death comes a week after the murder of journalist Walter Jaimes, which occurred in a sector of the state of Mérida.
The union indicated that the causes of Hidalgo’s death are being investigated, without offering further details.
According to local media, Hidalgo was found dead last Sunday in a home in a sector of the Sucre municipality, Aragua state.
The journalist’s remains were transferred to the headquarters of the National Service of Medicine and Forensic Sciences (Senamecf) for the autopsy and, according to the newspaper Notitarde, the institution keeps all hypotheses open, while “forensic examinations define whether the incident corresponds to a suicide or a homicide.”
Hidalgo, says the newspaper, graduated as a journalist from the Bolivarian University of Venezuela (UBV), worked in the communications area of the Ministry of Transportation and was a member of the Anti-imperialist Revolutionary Integrating Movement (MIRA).
This event occurs a week after the press union denounced the murder of journalist Walter Jaimes in the state of Mérida.
The National Union of Press Workers (Sntp) indicated in
On Thursday, the Sntp reported that the authorities agreed to exhume the journalist’s body to carry out “new forensic medical examinations to corroborate key elements of the case.”
This Tuesday it was reported that the Minister of the Interior, Diosdado Cabello, reported on the arrest of Jaimes’ alleged murderer and, as he said, the case is now “clarified.”
At an event in that region of the Venezuelan Andes, Cabello indicated that Jaimes was murdered for “a personal matter” and that, according to security cameras in the region, the journalist was riding a red motorcycle along with “the murderer.”
