A path that began in 2022 which today translates into an official bond and new perspectives of collaboration between communities united by history, heritage and traditions.
San Marino, 14 September 2026 – A bond born from meeting and mutual knowledge has transformed into an official friendship relationship. In the course of XXIX Vicopisano Medieval Festivalon 5 and 6 September, the Friendship agreements between the Municipality of Vicopisano and the San Marino Castles of the City of San Marino and Montegiardino.
The signature concludes a journey that began in 2022when the first contacts and meetings between the San Marino entities and the Municipality of Vicopisano began. A path that has grown over the years through visits, institutional occasions and moments of conviviality, which have allowed us to discover profound affinities and build an authentic relationship between the respective communities.
What unites Vicopisano, the City of San Marino and Montegiardino are first and foremost a history and a heritage of particular value, but also a common attention to protection of the territory, the enhancement of cultural heritage and the transmission of one’s traditions. The Agreements therefore represent much more than a formal act: they are the commitment to give continuity to an already consolidated relationship and to develop new opportunities for collaboration, particularly in the sectors of culture, tourism, sport and the promotion of territoriesencouraging exchanges, shared initiatives and the involvement of the respective associations and communities.
The subscription initially took place in an institutional form at the town hall of Vicopisano, in the presence of the Mayor Matteo Ferrucciof the Deputy Mayor with responsibility for Tourism Fabiola Franchiof the Captain of Castello of the City of San Marino Alberto Simonciniof the Captain of Castello di Montegiardino Giacomo Rinaldi and the San Marino delegation. The signing was then celebrated publicly during the medieval dinner in the Piazza del Palazzo Pretorio, in the heart of the Medieval Festival, in a particularly evocative setting which allowed this moment to be shared with the community of Vicopisano and with the numerous visitors present.
‘The signing of the Friendship Pacts is for us the natural culmination of a relationship that in recent years has grown through mutual knowledge and the desire to build true relationships between our communities’ – declare the Captain of Castello of the City of San Marino Alberto Simoncini and the Captain of Castello di Montegiardino Giacomo Rinaldi. ‘We found in Vicopisano a sincere welcome and a sensitivity very close to ours, especially in the valorization of the history, traditions and heritage that has been entrusted to us. With these Pacts we want to give a concrete future to this friendship, creating opportunities for meeting and collaboration that can involve not only institutions, but also associations, cultural and sporting entities, young people and citizens. The signature does not close a journey: it opens a new one, which we hope will be full of shared projects and experiences.’
Special thanks are addressed to Municipality of Vicopisanoto the Mayor Matteo Ferrucci, to the Deputy Mayor Fabiola Franchi, to Giampiero Nesti, President of the Vicopisano Medieval Festival Association and to all those who contributed to making the process of rapprochement between the communities possible.
Special recognition also goes to Gianluca TucciPlenipotentiary Minister of the Republic of San Marino and Director General of the Naval Registry, who has accompanied the project since its origins, encouraging dialogue and keeping alive the bond between Vicopisano and San Marino.
He was also remembered during the ceremony Francesco Tuccia citizen of Vicopisano who passed away prematurely, who had strongly believed in the possibility of bringing the two communities closer together and in the value of this project.
The choice to sign the Pacts during the Medieval Festival of Vicopisano gave the initiative a particularly evocative meaning. History and traditions, which represent an element of identity for both realities, have become the natural context in which to seal a friendship built over time.
The City of San Marino and Montegiardino are now looking at the next steps with the aim of transforming the Pact into a permanent opportunity for discussion, collaboration and participationin the belief that it is precisely the relationships between communities that give substance and value to friendly relations between territories.
A bridge between Monte Titano and Vicopisanotherefore, which from today is officially more solid and which can be crossed by people, ideas, culture and new meeting opportunities.
