The circulation of trains on the Ollantaytambo-Machu Picchuin Cusco, was suspended this Friday, October 2, after an incident occurred between an Inca Rail unit and another of PeruRail, near the Pampacahua sector.
The incident occurred approximately at 1:25 p.m. and forced Ferrocarril Transandino SA (FTSA)concessionaire of the railway, to order the temporary cessation of railway traffic while the corresponding procedures are carried out and the condition of the track is evaluated.
So far, the companies involved and the dealership have reported that there were no injuries or third parties affected as a result of the incident. Furthermore, they have not officially reported the causes of the accident nor have they used the term “crash” or “collision” in their communications.

PeruRail confirmed that one of its trains was involved in the incident with an Inca Rail unit. The company indicated that the suspension of circulation will generate delays in some of your scheduled serviceswhile the necessary actions are carried out to restore rail traffic.
The company indicated that it will communicate the rescheduling to passengers and made its call center (01) 625 4848 and its sales executives to provide information and assistance to affected users.
For its part, Inca Rail reported that the concessionaire immediately suspended operations on the route between Ollantaytambo and Machu Picchu Town “until further notice”.
Ferrocarril Transandino has been collecting technical information on site and coordinating with the operating companies and the competent authorities to determine the circumstances of the incident.
For now, official statements do not specify how the contact between both units occurred nor the extent of the material damageso the causes remain under investigation.
