China ready to expand cooperation with Belarus in education, technology, tourism

MINSK, 17 June (BelTA) – China is willing to deepen cooperation with Belarus in education, technology, tourism, and youth projects,  Zhang Qingwei, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress of China, said during a meeting of the high-level committee on cooperation between the legislative bodies of Belarus and China, BelTA has learned.

“Belarus and China are good friends and reliable partners. Our friendship has only grown stronger over the years. Our countries consistently follow the principles of mutual respect, equality, and mutual benefit. Mutual support on issues affecting each other’s core interests is our long‑standing tradition. At its heart lies all‑weather, all-round cooperation and partnership. China firmly supports Belarus in safeguarding its state sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity, supports the development path chosen by the Belarusian people in line with the country’s national realities, and strongly opposes external interference in your internal affairs and unlawful sanctions,” Zhang Qingwei emphasized.

He expressed confidence that the two states will continue to jointly counter external risks and challenges and protect their shared interests. The vice chairman recalled that Belarus was among the first countries to support and participate in the joint implementation of the Belt and Road Initiative. Practical cooperation between the two nations has a solid foundation, as evidenced by numerous successful joint projects, such as the Great Stone Industrial Park. “China is ready to expand cooperation with Belarus in education, technology, tourism, and youth projects,” he noted.

On 17 June, the third meeting of the high-level committee on cooperation between the legislative bodies of Belarus and China was held via videoconference. The parties discussed the current state and prospects for further strengthening bilateral cooperation. Sergei Aleinik, Chairman of the Commission on International Affairs and National Security of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus, told journalists that the discussion focused on trade and economic relations, investment, interregional and youth cooperation, and mutual support in international organizations.

The high-level committee on cooperation between the legislative bodies of Belarus and China was established as part of the implementation of Paragraph 3 of the Joint Declaration on establishing the highest level of relations in history, an all‑weather, all-round strategic partnership, signed on 15 September 2022. The initiative to sign a cooperation agreement between the National Assembly of Belarus and the National People’s Congress of China was put forward by the Council of the Republic in January 2023.
