Two people fell overboard at Kópaskeri this afternoon when their boat took in seas and began to sink in the harbor. It went well to get the men ashore and ambulances were called back when it was clear that they were safe.
This is what Jón Þór Víglundsson, information representative of the Landsbjargar Accident Prevention Association, says in an interview with a news agency. The men were rescued ashore with the help of a jet ski.
The rescue ship Gunnbjörg at Raufarhöfn, the rescue boat Villi Pál at Húsavík and the rescue team Núpar at Kópaskeri were called out as a top priority just after 5 pm today when the incident was reported.
Less than an hour later, the call had been canceled when the men had arrived ashore, according to Jón. He had no further information about the boat or its condition.
