A British man killed his wife by stabbing her at least 78 times, and according to prosecutors, he was driven by his obsession with money and the desire to prevent her from leaving him, reports The BBC.
Robert Alexander was married to nurse Christina Alexander, 60, for around six years before he murdered her at their Tamworth home in the early hours of June 23, 2025.
The couple met through an online dating platform, and the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said Robert Alexander displayed “controlling and abusive behavior” throughout the relationship.
Alexander, 66, of Ascot Drive, Tamworth, was found guilty of manslaughter by a jury on Wednesday following a trial at Stafford Crown Court.
The Prosecutor’s Office stated that he was previously convicted of assault after police intervened on September 13, 2020, when he grabbed Christina Alexander by the neck and strangled her.
After his arrest, he revealed that his main concern was that his wife knew the PIN code from his bank card, the spokesman for the Prosecutor’s Office added.
“It’s all about the money, she was telling me how to spend my inheritance. She came into my life about eight years ago with nothing,” he told officers.
They also noted that Christina Alexander told police in June 2021 that she was living under “constant threat of violence.”
By 2025, she had already begun taking steps to end the relationship, including consulting a lawyer and making financial preparations for independent living.
Prosecutors said her car dash cam captured her telling her sister: “I’ll probably be dead by then.”

“Driven by an obsession with money”
In the weeks leading up to the murder, Robert Alexander had twice inflicted self-inflicted injuries, which psychiatric experts later determined was an attempt to manipulate or control his victim.
He was released from hospital, where he was taken after the second incident, and just days later he killed Christina Alexander at their home in the Dosthill area of Tamworth.
He then called 999 and told police he had killed his wife, citing money and control issues. Later, however, he changed his version of events and denied committing the murder, the Prosecutor’s Office said.
A forensic pathologist determined that Christina Alexander suffered at least 78 stab wounds, including to her face, neck, body, arms and legs.
Before finding him guilty, the jury rejected Robert Alexander’s claims that he acted in self-defense and that he had diminished criminal responsibility.
Prosecutors said he was “driven by his obsession with money and his determination to prevent her from leaving him.”
“Our thoughts remain with the family and loved ones of Christina Alexander. She was a nurse who devoted her whole life to caring for others and her loss is deeply felt. We hope that this verdict will bring at least a partial sense of justice to her family, especially to her brothers and sisters, who supported the prosecution’s proceedings throughout the process,” said Senior Public Prosecutor Narmina Rafik.
Robert Alexander is due to be sentenced at Stafford Crown Court on September 1.
