The British High Commission and the Belize National Cricket Association joined forces to host a primary schools’ cricket tournament with a goal to use sport to connect young Belizeans with opportunity and community.
The “Cricket in Primary Schools: Batting For Change” tournament brought together students from across 12 primary schools, teachers, coaches, parents, and community leaders, with support from Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Marconi Leal Jr. and Minister of State for Youth and Sports Devin Daly.
“It was wonderful to see so much talent, determination, and sportsmanship on display throughout the tournament,” the British High Commission said in an online statement.
Public reaction was positive, with many voicing their support and calling for more. “Great job! This is a very good experience for the kids!” one supporter said. “Amazing to see cricket being played at junior level. Keep going!” another added.
