Roma beat Bologna 2-0 at the Dall’Ara stadium and trailed them by 13 points, remaining in fifth place with four matches remaining in the championship
The fourth seasonal cross between Bologna and Rome Gasperini’s team wins. It’s not one rematch of the round of 16 of the Europa Leaguenot really. But the Giallorossi take away from this away match what they wanted: the 2-0 is worth a victory which still keeps alive a small hope of catching Juventus in the Champions League race, now Spalletti is two points higher awaiting the match against Milan tomorrow evening.
Malen and El Aynaoui were the absolute protagonists of the match: the two are exchanged assists for their respective goals in the first half. The Dutchman’s, after just under 7 minutes, immediately put Roma’s game on the downhill side, against a Bologna side lined up for the first time since the start as Italians with a three-man defense and objectively disoriented, as well as not very focused on the match.
The Moroccan midfielder’s second goal came at the end of the first half, after some excellent wing play by Malen. Lots of Roma in the middle: the Dutch center forward could have scored at least two more goals, in the 26th and 37th minutes. Bologna? Not received, just an attempt by Orsolini in the 32nd minute well blocked with his feet by Svilar.
So much so that Dall’Ara didn’t appreciate it and at half-time booed the Italian players. A little better in the second half, almost exclusively thanks to Orsolini: first a high attempt in the 10th minute then the crossbar in the 15th minute which would have reopened the game. However, the match never actually came out of Roma’s control. Of note is a sensational opportunity in the final wasted with an empty net by De Silvestri and, in Rome, the Dybala returns to the pitch. He was on the pitch on 18 January, in the Turin-Rome match: from that day Gasperini hadn’t won away, the negative streak ended.
