Balíkomats have mushroomed in Košice like mushrooms after the rain. In the spring of 2026, there were 450 of them, and new ones are added every week.
The city’s rules on planting them will apply from May. Until then, residents witness various bizarre box locations.
While last year there was one long Packeta box and one short Slovak Parcel Service (SPS) box in front of Villa Park in the park on Komenského Street, at the beginning of this year residents had more of them available there.
The SPS box was expanded and next to it, at the same time, a short DPD parcel machine was added. The view of the villa from the front was thus completely blocked. In the spring, a change happened that scared some residents.
“Fortunately, I have a package in this part, which is free, because I don’t know how to get to the back box,” says Marián, an SPS customer whom we met at the box office.
It has already been moved back a meter and part of its mailboxes is hidden behind the competitor’s white parcel machine.
Fewer functional mailboxes
We therefore contacted both courier companies with the question of why this situation occurred.
