England’s football icon David Beckham receives a star on Hollywood’s “Walk of Fame” on the sidelines of the World Cup. Beckham’s wife Victoria and US film star will attend the ceremony on June 12th Tom Cruise take part, the organizers announced on Tuesday in Los Angeles. The star is intended to honor Beckham’s role “in increasing the popularity of soccer in America and his lasting influence on sports, entertainment and global culture.”
The “Walk of Fame” is located on the famous Hollywood Boulevard in the US metropolis of Los Angeles. The stars on the sidewalk for show business greats are a popular tourist attraction – now Beckham is getting one too. The star for the 51-year-old is to be unveiled a few hours before the first World Cup game in the USA, where the USA and Paraguay face each other in Los Angeles on June 12th. The opening game of the World Cup takes place the day before in Mexico, with Canada also co-hosting the tournament. (APA/AFP)
