Synopsis: Once completed, the bridge will reduce traffic congestion on the Monivong Bridge over the Bassac River, connecting National Road 1 in Chbar Ompov district.
The Bassac River Bridge connecting sangkat Chak Angre Krom to sangkat Prek Pra reached 68 percent completion, 6 percent ahead of schedule, according to a news statement of the Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MPWT) released yesterday. The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2027.
The Chak Angre Krom-Prek Pra Bridge has a length of 1,650 meters and a 27-meter width, including a connecting road length of 804.30 meters with 20 meters in width.
Once completed, the bridge will reduce traffic congestion on the Monivong Bridge over the Bassac River, connecting National Road 1 in Chbar Ompov district, strengthen socio-economic links between southern Phnom Penh and Techo International Airport in Takhmao city, reduce traffic congestion along the Bassac River, and accelerate the development of the area, especially improving the efficiency of transportation and logistics in Phnom Penh.
Tea Techouy, 29, a local resident living in the Chak Angre area, Mean Chey district, told Khmer Times, “The construction of Chak Angre Krom-Prek Pra Bridge across the Bassac River will be beneficial for the public, especially those living in both Chak Angre and Prek Pra areas.”
“Since Peng Huoth development project is now expanded closer to Prek Pra area, Chak Angre residents can travel faster to Peng Huoth area without having to cross the Moni-vong Bridge and travel through the National Road 1 anymore,” he added.
It should be noted that the construction of the bridge started in 2024, and was inaugurated by Prime Minister Hun Manet and Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia Wang Wenbin.
