On June 2, the appeal hearing in the cases of Armenian political prisoners Arayik Harutyunyan, Arkady Ghukasyan, Bako Sahakyan, Davit Ishkhanyan, Davit Babayan, Levon Mnatsakanyan and others was held at the Baku Appellate Court.
Judge Elmar Rahimov presided over the session, judges Emin Mehdiyev and Mehriban Garaeva (reserve judge Ali Mammadov) also participated. According to reports, Armenian and Russian translators were provided, as well as the presence of defense attorneys to ensure legal representation.
The defense side presented motions related to the clarification of complaints, the questioning of witnesses and the participation of the representative of the Human Rights Commissioner (ombudsman) of Azerbaijan. The prosecution objected to a number of petitions, noting that sufficient evidence has already been examined, and the new demands lack sufficient justification.
After the examination, the court decided to partially satisfy the petitions, and the appellate examination will continue on June 9.
The cases refer to the judgment of the Baku Military Court of February 5, 2026, which imposed life and long-term prison sentences.
We continue to call for the protection and freedom of the fundamental rights of all Armenian detainees.
