An autopsy has been performed on human remains recovered in Capuchin in connection with the investigation into the disappearance and suspected death of Jerbiah Paul.
The examination was conducted at the Government Mortuary at the Dominica-China Friendship Hospital (DCFH) by a forensic pathologist, according to Police Public Relations Officer Acting Assistant Superintendent Fixton Henderson.
The forensic examinations form part of the ongoing police investigation into Paul’s disappearance and suspected murder. Police are now awaiting the pathologist’s report, which is expected to provide information on the cause of death.
Authorities have not yet confirmed the identity of the remains as those of Paul. Henderson said that for identification purposes, DNA testing will be carried out at a forensic laboratory overseas. The results will assist investigators in determining whether the remains are those of the missing teenager.
Paul was reported missing on July 24. Human remains were previously recovered in the Capuchin area on August 12, during the search for her.
Two police officers have been charged in connection with the case: 23-year-old Jean-Luc Langlais, who was charged on August 13, and Joshua Hamlet, who was charged on August 17.
Both have been remanded in custody and are due to return to court on October 2.
